Text: Editorial summary of the construction of the pass over Oregon Mtn on 299. The construction method included leasing some of the equipment used in gold mining of the area between 1862 - 1918. The gold mine company washed out some est—11,000,000 c.y. of material. The highway builders hydraulically remove some 11,000,000 yds over 5&1/2 years. Approaches to the new pass won't be completed until next year.
