The Eureka City Council approved plans to make old Fort Humboldt an historic shrine and municipal park last night. Mrs. M.B. Cooper, owner of the site, offered to donate the site to the city some months ago. She will deed to the city block # 2 less Lot 1 of Humboldt Heights. Also she will deed 2 lots to provide an access to the site from Broadway. The fort was active between 1853 - 1865. W.S. Cooper, an early day real estate dealer, bought the site 30 yrs ago. In 1925 the D.A.R. obtained a stone from Medicine Rock near Trinidad and placed it at Fort Humboldt as a stone marker.
