Text: George filed a claim on 160 acres between 9th & 18th and A & J in Eureka. His was south of the Isaac Wilson claim. Richard Johnston, Bear River pioneer, wrote about the time in 1856 that he came over to Eureka from the mines to visit a Mr. Gideon Young , whom he & his wife had nursed back to health at the mines. Richard mentions the terrible mosquitoes between Arcata & Eureka & in the woods that night he spent w/ Mr. Young. Mr. Young had the eastern half of Tilley's claim.
