Text: Good description of Eureka. There's a continuous series of docks from H to A streets and from Vances Mill to the Occidental Mill. The distance by water from S.F.= 246 miles. By land = 300 miles. 27 hours by ship. There is a list of the lumber mills operating around the bay. Population at Eureka area is 6,000. County population ~ 17 to 20,000. Two streams are making weekly trips to SF.
