Text: "Hearing Held On Diversion of Eel River" On Tuesday, 9 - 27- 1927, in Ukiah - Chief Hiatt of the State Diversion of Water Rights held hearing on the application of Snow Mtn Water & Power to divert more water from the Eel to the RR. Hearing ran from 9AM - 7PM. Attorneys John F. Quinn for the B.O.S. and H.C. Nelson for the county presented data on the actual flows, then laid out the demand for water in Humboldt County for irrigation for dairying and farming which are dependent on the summer flow they also noted the connection with summer flows of fish, tourists, recreotion, & camping. They proposed that SMW & Power be required to return some of the impounded flood waters, at least to keep the summer flows to its normal height. Residents along the RR were protesting the Company's proposal to take the water from Potter Valley power house to Coyote Valley to use for irrigation. A delegation of the Fish and Game Association of northern Sonoma County entered a protest against the diversion of water from the Eel. The decision of the CA Division of Water Rights will be made - but no date given as to when.
