Text: "Here's Final Chapter On History Of Naval Air Station At Arcata." The NAAS at Arcata was accepted by the Bureau of Aeronautics on Jan. 1, 1945 as a FIDO installation. On Feb. 15, 1945, a detachment of Seabees consisting of 2 offices and 92 ratings, was ordered to the station for duty in connection of the const, install and operation of FIDO. Around June 1, 1945, the activities of the Landing Aide attachment were centered in the immediate vicinity of the runways which resulted in a conflict with the rocket training program. Therefore, on July 1, 1945, the fleet withdrew stripping its targets and removing all squadron and fleet personnel. After victory over Japan in August 1945, the station was considered for decommission. However it was decided to cont. work on the landing aids experiment work - so it was decided to reduce the station to a functional status on Sept. 15. In such a status the station was to provide facil. for the operation of the FIDO detachment and co-operate in the installation of the fog dispersal sys.
