Text: The Simpson Logging Company recently purchased the 160 acre Nixon Farm on the Arcata bottom, Mercer Fraser began grading a 12 acre yard on the property. Then they purchased Hammond Lumber Company's Railroad into Arcata. Lots of fill, gravel was hauled in and finally 11.7 acre was paved. The Railroad had to be reconstructed since the ties were laid in the 1900's by Carson. The Fehely Trucking Company began to bring in a portion of the Klamath Mill redwood cut, which began on Nov. 18, 1950. Simpson announced they were going to build a finishing plant at Arcata.
