Text: Lines of the Times- April 14, 1855 newspaper article mentions several recent earthquakes have the local Indians at Mad River very concerned. They have a legend that Humboldt Bay was created by an earthquake . Genzoli said there is some evidence of large earthquakes such as some immonse fissures found in the hills SE of Eureka and trees found buried to a depth of upwards of 200 feet. The 11,000 ft long wharf at Union will be completed in about 30 days.
