Text: Mrs. Marie Todd died. She was 81. Born in Lima, Peru in 1848. She and her parents came to Union on Aug. 6, 1850. Her mother died a yr later in Sept. 1851. At age 6, Marie Brizard, was taken to the trinity mines by her father and brother. 3 yrs later she returned to Arcata (Union), ready for school. Her teacher was Francis Bret Hart. On Aug. 6, 1874, she married Rev. James S. Todd. He died in 1908. The old Brizard store was her haven more than once when Indian scares struck Union in the early 1860's. "Indians never really the town, but the fear of their invasion was always present in these days.
