From Redding - a group of 30 surveyors & C.E. working for South Pacific, left Redding for Hamilton Gulch in NW Shasta County to run a line through the National Forest in Trinity county westward towards Eureka. The promoters of this Humboldt and Eastern Railroad has triggered a rivalry between Railroad companies to secure R/W & passes though this virgin territory.
