Text: Joe Duncan, an old Indian, died on 12/10/1927 at the mouth of the Mattole. He was involved with the conflicts with the first settlers of the Mattole. His son, Ike Duncan, took care of him the past few years. His age was unknown even by the oldest settlers. He was one of the last of the Mattole Indians.
