Text: The Eureka City PC last night turned down a long standing request from the Mid-City Group to rezone 120 acres next to 101 north of Murray Field from light-industrial and single-family to central commercial. This request was to allow the Mid-City Group to construct a multi-million dollar shopping center. Both the Downtown Eureka Business Association and the Henderson Center Merchants Association opposed the proposal. The Mid City Group purchased 422 acres in June of 1955 and in 1956, at the request of the City, 250 acres were bought into the City limits. Last night's hearing was a continuation of a public hearing held last January. It was scheduled on the request of Belcher Abstract and Title Company. Goodwin, representing the Mid City Group, said they already had 62 acres zoned for business - this request was to provide more acres for parking.
