Place: Highway 101 Fortuna Eel River

Text: Nearly nineteen million dollars is being spend on construction of highway 101 this summer. 47 miles are involved. The projects include - freeway bypass around Fortuna (Alton to north of Fortuna); Myers to Sylvandale including new bridge over the Eel, 7.5 miles; new bridge over Eel three miles south of Scotia (Stafford?); from just south of Loleta to 3.7 miles north to a point just south of Fields Landing; final surfacing of the new 3.95 mile from Little River to just .9 miles north of Trinidad, should be open in October. On July 8 work began on clearing and grading north approach to projected 1835' tunnel through Oregon Mountain. Tunnel will cast about 3.92 million dollars. South approach will be 3.8 miles long.
