Text: The Mckee journal in September 15, 1851 stated "salt marshes border much of the bay (Humboldt Bay). Travel by land difficult- miry ground- myriads of mosquitoes." The West Coast Signal on August 3, 1871 lamented "Mosquitoes. These annoying insects are just now very plenty here abouts."
