Text: From the Ferndale Enterprise we learn that a group of men went down to the mouth of the Eel and made soundings on the bar, estuary, Salt river. Estuary depth at high tide ~ 11-14 feet. Depth over the bar on old entrance at 1/3 rd tide =15 feet. The depth just inside the bar=26 feet. Salt River was sounded at 1/2 tide from the old entrance to the wharf at Port Kenyon, depth varied from 8.5 - 26 feet. The tide runs up the Eel & Salt Rivers 10 miles.
