The Souza Bros. of Yuba City were the low bidders on construction of the first phase of the Sandy Prairie Levee. This phase consists of the section from Alton to Sandy Prairie Road. Cost est. of the entire project = $1.4 million. Caltrans provided $200,000 to protect their right of way and freeway. Local Fortuna business and individuals contributed $36,000.
