Text: Two photos- one of destroyed bridge and one of the ferry boat. On Jan. 13 the flooding Eel knocked out the Holmes-Larrabee bridge & the Shively bridge isolating both communities. The Shively low level bridge was built in 1937 and was one of 4 low level bridges built at a cost of $10,000. The Jan. 3rd flood took out 135' feet of the 800' feet low level bridge. Surveyor Frank Kelly est. a suspension bridge high enough to be clear of floods would cost $250,000. There are 54 families in Shively. Gillette Swan operates the skiff & handles about 50 passengers/day.
