The Union Lumber Company is negotiating to purchase the historic 5,457-acre Frank Clarke ranch between Laytonville and Branscomb. They are to buy it from Miss Ceicle Clarke and Mrs. Frank Clarke - the ranch is worth several million. Most of the timber is virgin and Frank was opposed to cutting of the timber during his lifetime. The ranch was known as the finest sheep ranch in the state. He raised a French brand of sheep on the ranch.
