A wagon road was opened in 1858 from Crescent City to the mining camps in Oregon. Road went to Sailors Diggins, 3 miles east to Waldo. The road crossed Smith River at the Peacock Place. Old camp Lincoln is now (1958) known as the Finley Ranch.
