Text: Whole page- text & photos- on constructing 101 across Freshwater Lagoon. Constr. is progressing. It will take another year to complete it . The sand spit is 30 ft above MSL. 5000' feet of it is on the sand. Cost est. $1,5M. At the north end there benches in the large out face. Holes were drilled horizontally into the slope 130'-170' feet to drain any water that may be present -to prevent landslides. Right after the pipes were installed one produced 2150 gpd while others produced 1000 gpa. The contractor is piombo constr. of S.F> with crew of 95 men. Paving should occur next spring (1950) & the highway opened in Oct 1950. The old road has 73 curves.
