John Briceland came to Humboldt County in 1884 & was a cattle & sheep rancher for many years. The store was built in 1905 from hand hewn timbers. The population of the nearly area is about 250 per the post mistress. A natural gas well drilled in 1894, at one time, furnished light & fuel for the whole town. Ned Keith who worked for Wagner Leather company from 1910- 1922, said the road was built through to Garberville in 1878. Ned said we used to produce 3500 barrels/yr & the ship "Sea Foam" used to take it through to Stockton. Most of Briceland burned in 1914. Mrs. Bowden's husband J.W., in 1905, & ran it until his death a decade ago. The Wagner Leather Company started in 1900. They moved their plant back to Stockton in 1923. The Ettersburg school was built in 1930.
