Photo of the old school; Valley Flower Creamey; Andresen home; Roland Boynton home; Bertram Rusk home. Loren Salladoy, age 16, local historian, says in 1844 the Eel shifted its channel, widened out, became shallow. Salt River followed suite. Today, Salt River is so shallow at low tide that parts can be waded across with hip boots. Salmon cannery were started & Chinese were brought in. After the port shutdown Ferndale got its real start.
