Text: Whole page of photos & text on the whaling station at Fields Landing. Author is Ernest Snowberges. Its operated by Maritime Industries. It's the only whaling operation in North America. Skippers Gib Hunter and Herman Foland of the Killer boats " Dennis Gayle" and " Lynn Ann" , recently purchased the whaling station. About 1700 gallons of whale oil is extracted on average. Some 7-10 tons of good red meat & is sold for dog food. The liver weighs from 800 lbs to 4000 lbs & is salted & put in wooden barrels & stored at 20`F. It's is a reliable source of vitamin A.
