October 19, 2025

Good morning and happy Monday. I hope you had an epic weekend and were able to enjoy some of the beautiful weather.

Well Done to the Model United Nations (UN) Team

I wanted to give a shout out to Noah Zerbe and the Model United Nations team for earning an Honorable Mention Award at their conference in New York. They represented South Sudan, and earned this award out of more than 3,500 students.

International Travel Guidance from the Chancellor's Office for Spring/Summer 2025

The Chancellor’s Office recently put out some guidance regarding internation travel. The introduction from the guidance reads:

Because of the complex and fact-specific nature of U.S. immigration law, we are unable to provide universal guidance that will apply in all cases. However, the attached advisory outlines key issues and considerations for those contemplating travel abroad, with particular emphasis on risk areas for individuals in visa status or with concerns about their legal presence in the United States. Employees and students are urged to carefully consider and assess the variables outlined in the attached document, all of which may impact travel plans, personal safety while abroad, and the ability to reenter the United States.”

We recognize that these issues may cause fear and anxiety, and we do not share this guidance lightly. Nonetheless, in light of current federal enforcement patterns—and with the upcoming spring break period in mind—it is critically important that members of the CSU community are informed and exercise prudence when making travel decisions.

Please see the attachment to view the detailed guidance document.

Information Item: Assigned Time Approval Form Updated Process

There is a new process for managing and approving faculty assigned time starting with Fall 2025 assignments. A form will need to be completed and signed off on for each assignment, and PeopleSoft will be automatically populated once it’s approved. This will help us address the communication and documentation needs of managing assigned time. Thank you to Phillip Rouse, Patrick Malloy, Thomas Maiero, and Ken Thrift for their work on this project! If you have any questions please contact Patrick Malloy in the Provost’s Office.

CSU AI Educational Innovations Challenge: Deadline: April 30, 2025

The Chancellor's Office has provided funding for educators to explore innovative applications for artificial intelligence in their instruction. "This initiative aims to enhance critical thinking skills, promote ethical AI use and integrate AI literacy into curricula. Faculty are encouraged to submit proposals for projects that will launch in summer 2025 and conclude by spring 2026."

Please complete this interest form. A direct link to the CSU call is embedded in the google form. For additional information, please see the attached flyer. For additional information please contact Enoch Hale.

Thanks and I hope you have a wonderful Monday.
