Provost Communication: Monday, August 24, 2026

August 26, 2026

Good morning Colleagues,

It's the first day of classes! I am so excited for our 791 first-time undergrads, 911 transfer students, 85 new credential students, 205 new grad students, and for All of our 6,212 students embarking on their 2026-27 academic journeys with us today (Data obtained from the publicly available HUMIS dashboard on the Institutional Research, Analytics & Reporting (IRAR) webpage).

We have a couple of events coming up in September that I hope you'll join us for, outlined below. These gatherings provide an opportunity to come together as colleagues, celebrate the start of the academic year, and recognize the accomplishments of members of our community.

These events are intended to bring a little joy to our workplace while strengthening the sense of connection that makes Cal Poly Humboldt such a special place to work. While I know that complimentary refreshments can be an incentive, I hope you'll come because your presence matters. When we take the time to celebrate one another, we demonstrate our appreciation for our colleagues and reaffirm our shared commitment to the work we do every day in support of our students.

Syllabi Due to Department Administrative Support Coordinators this Friday, August 28, 2026

Per the Syllabus Policy, all Fall 2026 syllabi are due to be submitted to your college department Administrative Support Coordinators (ASCs) this Friday, August 28, 2026. The ASCs will drop the syllabi into our Syllabi Repository for safekeeping. You may or may not be surprised that many students reach out to us every year seeking old syllabi in order for them to re-enroll in college and to show proof of prerequisites for graduate school applications.

Please don’t forget to say, “Hi” if you see the President, VP of EMSS, or me while we are out and about campus delivering donuts this morning. And, please remind students that the Part-time Job Fair is tomorrow on the Quad!

Sincerely,

Shawna
