October 19, 2025

Good morning and happy Monday. I hope your weekend treated you well.

Congratulations to team 2 Legit 2 Kick, the 3-year reigning champions from Advancement & Athletics, for their victory in the third annual College Colors Day Kickball tournament. I am especially proud of my Academic Affairs team for showing out. Thanks also to everyone who made the Academic Affairs Welcome Back & Promoted Faculty Reception a success. It was wonderful celebrating our incredible faculty and sharing our accomplishments and priorities for the division.

Academic Affairs Priorities for 2025-2026

If you missed the Welcome Back & Promoted Faculty Reception, here are the three divisional priorities for the 2025-2026 Academic Year:

  1. Successful WASC reaffirmation

  2. Launch of new academic programs for 2026 (polytechnic and otherwise)

  3. Increasing a culture of appreciation, inclusion, professional growth, and career pathways for our staff

Well Done!

The 3D Digital Herbarium grew to over 80 specimens total, and the Advanced Mammalogy Spring 2025 course, working with AJ Bealum and Team Flora, created: 3D Vertebrates.org

Sabbatical Applications and Difference in Pay (DIP) Application Deadline: October 6, 2025

As a reminder, for eligible faculty, sabbatical and DIP applications are due by 11:59 p.m. (PST) on Monday, October 6, 2025. In recent years, applications for semester long sabbaticals have become highly competitive due to an increase in eligible faculty who may apply for sabbatical. Earning a high review rating early in the review process has not been a guarantee of forthcoming approval. However, year long sabbaticals remain uncompetitive; applications with merit are funded. Please note that late applications will not be considered. Please contact aps@humboldt.edu if you have questions.

Both sabbatical and DIP applications for the 2026-2027 academic year must submit all required supporting materials using the Google Form, linked here: Application for Sabbatical or Difference in Pay Leave to be taken during Academic Year 2026-27. Please refer to the following for details:

Deepening Community Collaboration through Equity Arcata

Equity Arcata remains one of the most impactful partnerships with the City of Arcata at Cal Poly Humboldt, aligning the university with the City of Arcata and local organizations, including the Arcata Police Department, to build a more inclusive, welcoming community. This year, Equity Arcata formalized its organizational structure, transitioning from a traditional board of directors to an advisory committee that reflects broad community representation and shared governance. New programming includes the Equity Arcata Community Development Grant, aimed at supporting bridge-building efforts between campus and local Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities. Recent events like the Sanctuary Solidarity Day, Vendor Networking Workshop, and Open House at the Crabs Game highlight Equity Arcata’s evolving role as a convener of dialogue and community engagement.

Have a great Monday.
