Learning Center Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy

The Learning Center supports student success by fostering deep, lasting learning through active engagement, evidence-based strategies, and peer-to-peer collaboration. As generative AI becomes more integrated into education and the workplace, the Center views it as a tool to augment, not replace, human learning. Their goal is to help students and peer educators build AI literacy, enabling them to think critically about AI use, make ethical decisions, and navigate diverse course policies.

The center's AI policy includes the following topics:

  • Verification of Course AI Policy

  • AI Literacy Education

  • Transparency and Consent

  • Privacy and Security

The Learning Center is committed to preparing Humboldt students to use AI responsibly, ethically, and effectively, while keeping student learning, critical thinking, and academic integrity at the core. Please let them know if you have questions or feedback about the policy and services. Here is a link to their contact information. To read the full AI statement and policy, visit the policies webpage

GEAR Program Review Complete, with Recommendations

It's the document you've all been waiting for! The GEAR committee would like to thank the campus community for their input and contributions to the GEAR program self-study. The final document now includes a conclusion with recommendations (section 7). Questions? Contact the GEAR committee chair, Sara Hart, at Sara.Hart@humboldt.edu.

Finally, I would like to do a special shout-out to Lauren Lynch, my executive assistant and all-around stellar human. She will be leaving Cal Poly Humboldt at the end of the month to pursue an amazing new opportunity out of the area. Lauren has served Cal Poly Humboldt for more than 10 years and has done so with incredible dedication, wisdom, grace, and kindness. She will be missed. There will be several opportunities to celebrate Lauren, including at our Academic Affairs Welcome Back and Promoted Faculty Celebration on September 18, 2025. Another great reason to come out and join us!

Have a great Monday.

Sincerely,

Jenn Capps
