Provost Communication, Wednesday, January 14, 2026

January 16, 2026

Good morning and happy Wednesday! Welcome back to Spring 2026. I hope you had a great break. This is my last week at Cal Poly Humboldt and thus my last provost communication as I transition to the President role at Cabrillo College. I am so excited for Shawna Young to take on this role of Interim Provost and have every confidence that Academic Affairs will thrive under her leadership.

Office of Academic Affairs Provost Transition Open House, Today! Wednesday, January 14, 2026

Please join the Office of Academic Affairs for a Provost Office Transition Open House today, January 14th, from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm in Siemens Hall, Suite 216. Bid a fond farewell to outgoing Provost Jenn Capps and welcome in Shawna Young, who will be stepping in as the Interim Provost of Academic Affairs on January 20th, 2026. Visit the President’s message for more information.

A light lunch, refreshments, and dessert will be served. All campus community members are welcome and a limited assortment of Cal Poly Humboldt spirit gifts will be available.

Spring Professional Development Day 2026: Sustainability at Humboldt and Beyond, this Friday, January 16, 2026, 8:00am–1:00pm

This Friday, Professional Development Day invites all faculty, staff, and administrators to reimagine what sustainability means—on our campus, in our classrooms, and in our daily work. Together, we’ll explore how sustainable practices can enrich teaching, streamline operations, and strengthen community well-being. From nature-inspired design to cultivating sustainable mindsets in our students, this day will spotlight innovative ideas, share local successes, and inspire collective action toward a more resilient future. Join colleagues for keynote sessions, collaborative workshops, and conversations that connect sustainability with every aspect of our professional purpose.

Contact the Center for Teaching & Learning at ctl@humboldt.edu with any questions, or visit this link for more information: Professional Development Day.

Student Accommodation Memos

The Campus Disability Resource Center (CDRC) would like to remind you of the updated Accommodation Memorandum (Memo) process implemented during the Fall 2024 semester. All CDRC students will receive a semester-specific Accommodation Memo to send to their course faculty and no longer use course-specific accommodation memos. Students are responsible for sending their Spring 2026 semester Accommodation Memo to each of their course faculty to notify you of accommodations that the student will use.

As a reminder to faculty, please ensure the Accommodation Memo states “Spring 2026”. If it does not, please contact the student so they can get an updated/correct Accommodation Memo from the CDRC. It is the course faculty member’s responsibility to contact the CDRC if there are any questions and concerns on the Accommodation Memo or if the student appears and asks for additional (or past) accommodations that are not on their current Accommodation Memo.

If you have any questions regarding this process, please contact Cedric Aaron at the CDRC at Cedric.Aaron@humboldt.edu. If your department would like to invite CDRC to a team meeting to further discuss accommodations (such as the "memory card accommodation"), the CDRC welcomes the opportunity to meet with departments to go over CDRC-related processes and how we can continue to strengthen our campus partnerships.

And with that, I will close out this provost communication by thanking each and every one of you for making my time at Cal Poly Humboldt incredibly meaningful and rewarding. A piece of my heart will always be with the Redwood Coast and this exceptional university. Never doubt that the work you do has a profound impact on our students, the community, and your colleagues. It certainly did for me. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Jenn Capps
