April 24, 2026
Good morning Colleagues,
The countdown continues: 21 days until the WSCUC accreditation campus site visit! The WSCUC Review Team will be here April 15-17th to meet with more than 20 groups from our university community, as well as other campus community members who attend one of the scheduled open forums.
Mark Wicklund, Accreditation Liaison Officer, Heather Madar, Associate Vice President for Academic Programs and Dean of Undergraduate and Graduate Studies, and I have had the privilege of meeting with several campus groups in their preparation for their scheduled site visit meetings. The focus of the prep sessions is to provide an opportunity for those groups to talk together about their intersection with recommendations from the last accreditation cycle, and particularly with the Lines of Inquiry that the Review Team will be asking our campus community about during their visit. We are grateful for the time, thoughtfulness, and care each of the groups has brought to this process. It has been such a pleasure to learn more about what you all are doing in your respective areas. I have walked away from each prep session feeling even more proud to be part of the Cal Poly Humboldt family.
Mark, Heather, and I will continue meeting with groups across campus in the coming weeks. I should note here that the groups that are on the site visit schedule were identified and requested by the WSCUC Review Team. If you are not among one of the groups on the site visit schedule, we encourage you to attend one of the open forums with the Review Team:
Additionally, you may submit feedback confidentially in writing directly to the WSCUC Review Team using their email address for this visit: humboldt@wscuc.org.
Handshake Skillshops for Faculty and Staff: March 30 & April 17, 2026
The Career Development Center invites faculty and staff to attend upcoming Handshake Skillshops designed to enhance student hiring and engagement. Handshake serves as Cal Poly Humboldt’s primary job platform for students, and these sessions provide a guided overview of its features and best practices for connecting with student job-seekers. The next session will be held on March 30, 2026, from 11:00 to 12:00 pm in Library 121. An additional session will be offered on April 17, 2026. Skillshops are offered on a drop-in basis; no registration is required.

Testing Center Insights: Make-Up Exam Process
The Testing Center provides structured support for administering make-up exams while ensuring equitable access and efficient use of limited seating. All make-up exam requests follow a two-step approval process:
Instructor approval, followed by
Additional approval (as applicable):
CARE Advisor (for non-CDRC students)
CDRC Advisor (for students with accommodations)
Testing Center (for student-athletes or those attending academic presentations or conferences)
While this process may require additional coordination, it ensures that exams are properly approved, documented, and administered effectively. If timing is critical, instructors may also choose to proctor make-up exams independently. For complete details, please visit the Make-Up Exam webpage at this link:
Testing Center Make-Up Exams. To help streamline the process and minimize unnecessary in-person visits, faculty are encouraged to direct students to this webpage or have them contact the Testing Center.
For questions or additional support, please contact the Testing Center at testing@humboldt.edu.
Sincerely,
Shawna Young
