Hello everyone, and happy Wednesday. I hope your week has been going well. There are two great events coming up that I want to make sure you have marked on your calendar. 

Academic Affairs Welcome Back & Tenure and Promotion Ceremony: Thursday, September 18, 2025

In celebration of the new academic year and in honor of our recently promoted faculty, we invite you to join us for the Academic Affairs Welcome Back and Promoted Faculty Reception on Thursday, September 18, 2025, from 5-7:30 pm in the Kate Buchanan Room (KBR) on the 2nd floor of the Gutswurrak Student Activities Center. Refreshments and beverages will be served. We look forward to celebrating our accomplishments, recognizing our promoted faculty, and welcoming the semester together.

College Colors Day: Friday, September 19, 2025, from 12 pm-6:00 pm

Show your school spirit at College Colors Day and join the campus-wide celebration filled with:

• Free food and music

• Face painting

• Fun Field games

• The Annual Kickball Tournament

Bring your energy, your team colors, and your competitive spirit. The event is located on the Upper Playing Field near Redwood Bowl. Please join us for this free and fun event. 

Learn Your Library Tour with OLLI: Wednesday, September 17, 2025, from 1 pm-2:50 pm

Kick off the fall term with OLLI at Humboldt! Join us on Wednesday, September 17, from 1:00–2:50 pm for a special library tour and presentation by Library Dean Cyril Oberlander and OLLI staff. Discover the benefits of OLLI membership and explore the library’s innovative resources, including the Scholars’ Lab, Special Collections, Flight Simulator, 3D Herbarium, Digital Dissection Table, and L4Humboldt. This event is free for OLLI members and $25 for non-members. Register at: humboldt.edu/olli/library

Current and retired Cal Poly Humboldt faculty and staff can join OLLI for just $25 a year, with access to free and discounted classes all year long. 

REMINDER: Certificate for Online Instruction Academy - Register by September 22, 2025 

You are invited to participate in the Certificate for Online Instruction Academy, a six-week, fully asynchronous program designed for educators who have already taught online courses at least twice and want to further enhance their skills. From October 6 – November 16, 2025, participants will engage in ~5–7 hours per week of structured, experiential learning guided by the Center for Teaching & Learning Quality Learning & Teaching (QLT) Team. Through research-based strategies, backward design principles, inclusive pedagogy, and hands-on applications, this Academy supports both your teaching and your students’ learning. Participants will receive a $1,200 stipend upon successful completion.
