About Kelsey

Why did you choose this program?

I originally was just enrolled as a Kinesiology major, but after going through the process to audition for one of the student choreography shows, I decided to double major in Dance. I loved the variety of classes offered in the program. It really helped me expand on my ballet background. The curriculum for the dance program covers so much including technique, stage design, lighting, costumes, and, of course, my favorite: choreography and performing. It appeals to dancers of all backgrounds and it's so fun to meet, dance, and collaborate with your fellow students.

How did this program prepare you for your job?

While my job currently does not include dance, I am constantly using my body for my job. I ended up teaching yoga and other forms of exercise because that is where my passion led me. However, my time at HSU gave me the confidence in my collaboration skills to become a very successful manager who is able to work with people of many different personalities.

What did you enjoy most about the program?

I loved performing at the amazing Van Duzer Theater. Every performance was so much fun and the student body, staff, and community always came out to support which was awesome!

What would you say to prospective students who are thinking about applying to this program?

If you are looking for a dance program that will give you a variety of training and an opportunity to grow as an artist then this program is the one for you!
