Sophia Remer

International StudiesMinors in Spanish & Anthropology, 2014

Sophia Remer, International Studies, 2014, went onto culinary school in Sonoma County after graduating from HSU and worked as a professional baker. She has recently moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with her partner (also a Humboldt graduate) who is getting his Ph.D. in Pollination Biology. Sophia is pursuing a dual degree Masters of Arts in Food Studies with an MBA program from Chatham University to combine her backgrounds in food and cultural studies.

Sean Berry, Native American Studies, 2014, is a Legal Administrative Specialist for the Northern California Agency of the Bureau of Indian Affairs.

Everardo Cuevas

English, 2014

Everardo Cuevas, 2014 English, has been accepted into the master's program in Critical Studies in Literacy and Pedagogy at Michigan State University. Additionally, he has been awarded an Academic Achievement Graduate Assistantship (AAGA) from the College of Arts & Letters at MSU. This assistantship, which recognizes leadership potential and is offered to only two percent of graduate assistants, will provide two years of full funding toward the master's degree.

Jared Birnbaum

International Studies, 2014

Jared Birnbaum, 2014 International Studies, is enrolled in a master’s program at Fresno State University. Birnbaum plans to finish with a master’s degree in Communication and Linguistics, and also be certified in Teaching English as a Foreign Language and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TEFL/TESOL).

Stephanie Cowherd

EnglishLiterature, MA, 2014

Stephanie Cowherd, English, 2014, works for Ecotrust, an environmental non-profit based in Portland, Oregon. She leads community outreach and engagement, communications, and manages tribal forestry projects for her Forests & Ecosystem Services team at Ecotrust. Her current projects include a landscape assessment of opportunities and barriers in tribal forestry workforce development, working alongside native educators to design culturally-specific curriculum for forestry education tools, and community engagement with tribal forestry activities.

Evan Blair

Politics, 2013

Evan Blair ('13, Political Science) earned an M.A. in Educational Leadership from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota in 2017. He is currently the Associate Director of Admissions at UC Davis Graduate School of Management.

Ryan Bieker

Politics, 2013

Ryan Bieker, 2013 Political Science, began working at the California Public Employee Retirement System as an associate governmental program analyst administering the affordable care act with public agencies and state departments. Bieker also provides customer education, retirement and health program counseling, and responses to customer inquiries.

Stephanie Freitas

History, 2013

Stephanie Freitas, 2013 History, is a full time history teacher at Mt. Whitney High School in Visalia, Calif. Freitas is married to HSU alumnus Salvador Cazarez, who is also teaching in the Visalia district.
