Chrissy is a Mechanical Engineer specializing in building technology, construction, energy analysis, and HVAC systems. She lectures part-time at Cal Poly Humboldt and has taught classes like Introduction to Fabrication (ENGR 123) and Renewable Energy Power Systems (ENGR 475/575) and has co-taught the labs for Physics (PHYS 109), and Energy Systems Fundamentals (ENGR 355). Outside her university work she is the owner of a construction company, Backman
Building Services LLC, CA B#1118196, specialising in high efficiency and natural building techniques and can often be found with a hammer in hand leading the construction team. She is also a principle engineer at Shobe Engineering, LLP, where she provides facilities, building systems, and mechanical engineering support for municipal, residential and commercial projects. She co-owns the company with her husband, Justin Shobe, who is also a CPH alumni.
