Since their establishment, SHPE has worked to create a strong community within the ERE department. Rather than participating in projects or competitions like other clubs, SHPE focuses on helping students excel academically, celebrating and educating each other and our cultures, and building a welcoming community for its members.
To accomplish their goals in the 2016-2017 academic year, SHPE continued to host ERE peer tutoring, provided and promoted academic resources such as videos, workshops and mentoring, hosted the annual Dia de los Muertos (October) event and the Celebracion Latin@ (Cesar Chavez Day), provided a safer place to talk about issues that impact the Latin@ community, become involved in the Hispanic Serving Institution grant writing process, provided opportunities for lower division students to seek aid in academic planning, and hosted roller skating, dancing, games and dinner for the ERE community.

Since their establishment, SHPE has worked to create a strong community within the ERE department. Rather than participating in projects or competitions like other clubs, SHPE focuses on helping students excel academically, celebrating and educating each other and our cultures, and building a welcoming community for its members.
To accomplish their goals in the 2015-2016 academic year, SHPE hosted ERE peer tutoring, provided and promoted academic resources such as videos, workshops and mentoring, hosting the annual Dia de los Muertos (October) event and the new Celebracion Latin@ (Cesar Chavez Day), provided a safer place to talk about issues that impact the Latin@ community, become involved in the Hispanic Serving Institution grant writing process, provided opportunities for lower division students to seek aid in academic planning, and hosted roller skating, dancing, games and dinner for the ERE community.
This year, SHPE also began a new annual tradition for the ERE community. They hosted a graduation event to provide a guaranteed location for dinner on grad night, including a buffet as well as an after party for all graduates and their friends and families.
