Basic Wildland Firefighter Training

Mon.-Wed., March 16-18, 2026, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. (on campus: TBA) & Thurs.-Fri., March 19-20th, 6 a.m.-5 p.m. (off campus field days)

Credit: 1 unit credit, FOR 480

Age: 18+

With Jaime Granados Quintanilla

Get a summer job or a career with a natural resource agency. Learn prescribed burning for habitat and conservation management and obtain national certification. This training is part of the wildland and prescribed fire qualifications system used by all federal agencies (such as the U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, National Park Service, Bureau of Indian Affairs or U.S. Fish and Wildlife) and many state and private agencies.

All courses (L-180, S-130, S-190) are combined and will be placed on a single certificate, signed by the lead instructor and awarded to each individual student upon successful completion of the entire 40-hour course.

Prior to participating in this course, you must complete the following two certificates online:

You must be at least age 18 by the start of the course, to be able to register.

Jaime Granados Quintanilla

Jaime Granados Quintanilla began his career in the U.S. Forest Service in 2018 working for the California Civilian Conservation Corp. Jaime is a patrol captain on the Lower Trinity Ranger District. He worked on Federal Type 3 engines for a majority of his career. He serves as a logistics chief on Incident Management Teams.
