Employer: Ph.D. Student, San Diego State & UC Santa Barbara
Job description: I am an incoming first year Ph.D. student in a Geography joint program at San Diego State University and UC Santa Barbara. I am interested in studying GIScience, environmental, and human geography. Specifically, I am interested in using David Pellow’s Environmental Justice framework, to document similar case studies. My proposed dissertation aims to use geographic information systems (GIS) and spatial statistics to create a map of the unequal impacts of environmental pollution within ethnic minorities, people of color, and low-income communities using a mixed-method approach.
About Aneika
The E&C program encouraged me to continue my research in environmental justice based on the relationship between the environment and its communities. During my time in the program, I found that I have a passion for helping my own community, low-income, people of color, and other minorities who have the burden of environmental exposure form air, water, and soil pollution from industrialization. In the E&C program, I met amazing students who helped me throughout my graduate experience and supported my educational career.
