Employer: Congressman Jared Huffman
Job description: I represent Congressman Jared Huffman in Humboldt, Del Norte, and Trinity Counties. I provide constituent services, take meetings on the Congressman’s behalf, and engage with the community on local issues including offshore wind energy development. I run the Congressional Art Competition, Congressional App Challenge and organize Military Academy nominations for California District 2. I am also the district lead on the 2020 census.
About Ciara
The Environment and Community program was essential in allowing me to build and foster key community connections in Humboldt County and build expertise in the policy and community engagement processes. By having the opportunity to interview community stakeholders and participate in grant-funded research on offshore wind energy through the E&C program, I was able to engage on a local policy issue and gain skills that have helped me in my role doing the same work on Congressman Huffman’s staff. The flexibility of the Environment and Community program allowed me to tailor my master’s degree to my own interests and that has been especially helpful as I’ve moved on to my career.
