Environment & Community, M.A. | Class of
Leah Ramnath
Ph.D. Student
Employer: Virginia Tech
Job description: I'm a recent PhD Student in the Alliance for Social, Political, Ethical, and Cultural Thought (ASPECT), an interdisciplinary doctoral program at Virginia Tech. I'm interested in studying concepts around feminist critical theory, cynicism, governmentality, and socio-spatial analysis. Specifically, my research interests lay within a Foucauldian gaze on space and place; my working dissertation proposition aims to reinvigorate the notion of the cynic and locate cynical landscapes gleaning from theoretical frameworks of feminist geographies.
About Leah
Cal Poly Humboldt’s Environment and Community MA Program has helped me tremendously in advancing my career. I took this job soon after graduating and was offered a management position because of a few brief conversations with the laboratory director. I believe the interdisciplinary theoretical practices I’ve acquired in the program have enabled me to have extensive discussions, appealing to my manager in particular. Moreover, working at this facility allows me to reach towards the call to action in my thesis, to create a space for minority women to thrive. The E&C program and faculty sincerely encouraged me to research what I’m passionate about, and I plan on applying to PhD programs for the incoming year so I can continue to do just that!
