Environment & Community, M.A. | Class of
Meribeth (Beth) Geiger
WA Director
Employer: Region 16 Comprehensive Center
Job description: Regional Comprehensive Centers support state education agencies with capacity building and technical assistance in their respective regions. As the WA Director for the R16CC I oversee the Washington State project, focused on Native education, as well as partner with my regional colleagues in Alaska and Oregon. I work closely with Washington's Office of Native Education and Native education leaders to build relationships and resources to better serve our Native American and Alaska Native students and families. All of our work follows family, student, and elder direction.
About Meribeth
My E&C education has helped me be able to recognize deep, institutional barriers within education that historically and presently create a hostile environment for many Native students. Mark Baker led an exceptional program where we were all given the freedom to explore the subjects that were the most meaningful to us. I am forever thankful for the learning, growth, and friends I created in the E&C program (as well as my thesis chairs Sarah Ray and Matt Derrick for making me get the work done).
