About Michael
Why did you choose this program?
I had a great conversation with a HSU professor as I was applying to universities, which really helped me feel comfortable with starting the program.
How did this program prepare you for your job?
The education I received and connections I made through completing the program helped me secure entry into a graduate program, and then to my current job. I apply the ear training and listening skills I learned throughout my education every day while tuning musical instruments.
What did you enjoy most about the program?
The Calypso Band! It is a life-changing experience as a practical musical education, a connection to music and musicians around the world, and too many other benefits to list.
What would you say to prospective students who are thinking about applying to this program?
If you prefer a smaller, more personal music program, this might be the school for you. Everyone knows everyone else in the Music department, making for tight-knit support between peers for performances and studies. The Van Duzer Theater on campus is always bringing in great musical performances; it's a prominent venue for a small college town. The access to the forest and ocean nearby is great if you are nature-oriented, and there is always fresh air outside when you need a break.
