William (Bill) Huffman
Journalism, 1967
William (Bill) Huffman, 1967, Journalism, retired after 30 years as vice president of communications and governmental affairs with Farmers' Rice Cooperative, in Sacramento. Bill and his wife lived for seven years at Lake Almanor, Calif, before moving to Chico, Calif., in early 2014 for medical reasons. His education at HSU with a degree in Journalism and minors in Political Science and Public Relations provided Bill with the best academic credentials for his 45-plus years in governmental relations and communications. He received the rice industry's premier award when he was named to receive the California Rice Industry Award in 2009. The couple has four children and three grandchildren.
Barbara Brovelli-Moon
Sociology, 1967
Awarded the 2021 Alaska SeaLife Center's Marine Science Outreach Award. This award is given to a person or team that has made an outstanding contribution to ocean literacy. It is sponsored by the Alaska Ocean Observing System. After retiring from over 40 years in education, Barbara Brovelli-Moon’s passion for teaching and Alaska’s wildlife continues through her company, Ocean Otter Publishing. Barbara has written and published six field guide books for children and families about Alaska’s animals, filling a niche previously unavailable to youth. Her work is a valuable resource that helps children connect to the living creatures here in Alaska and teaches them they can make a difference.
Fernando Elizondo

Dr Elizondo HSU'67 retired California superintendent of schools recently completed a year long term as foreperson of the 2011 Monterey Civil Grand Jury.
William Roberts
Theatre, 1967
William Roberts, 1967, Theatre Arts, followed his undergraduate education earning degrees from UC Riverside and the University of Manchester, where he took his diploma in Drama in 1969. Roberts spent five years as an actor and director with the Oregon Shakespeare Festival from 1963 to 1972. He has been a resident of Britain and a member of the British Actor's Equity since the late '60s. A broadly experienced actor and voice artiste, he is a frequent reader of American works on BBC Radio and for various audio publishers. He is often heard voicing "heavy" characters in major video games. His film and television appearances include "Behind Closed Doors," "Infinite Justice," "Cold Moutain," and 2015's "Mission Impossible—Rogue Nation." Roberts recently published two novellas set on the North Coast, where he was raised. "The Humanist," a mystery novel, is set in Shelter Cove in Mendocino County. His second book, "An Ill Wind," takes place in Del Norte County, with scenes set in San Francisco, L.A., and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. He is also a private pilot based in London.
Robert T. Lackey
Fisheries Biology, 1967
Bob Lackey (BS, Fisheries, 1967) continues teaching graduate classes at Oregon State University in the Department of Fisheries, Wildlife, and Conservation Sciences. In 2008, he retired after 27 years with the Environmental Protection Agency’s 350-person national research laboratory in Corvallis. He served as Deputy Laboratory Director, Associate Director for Science, and in other senior science leadership positions.
Ron Fritzsche
Biological Sciences, 1967
Ron Fritzsche, 1967 Zoology, recently contributed a section to the Species Identification Guide for Fishery Purposes published by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. Fritzsche is an Emeritus Professor of Fisheries Biology. He was the HSU Outstanding Professor in 1991 and served as an administrator including Dean for Research, Graduate Studies and International Programs. Fritzsche also served as assistant to the Provost for faculty affairs and space and facilities. He is currently an elected board member for the North Humboldt Recreation and Park District and the local Timber Heritage Association. Fritzsche met his wife, also an HSU graduate, in John VanDuzer’s Speech 1 class.
Robert T. Lackey
Fisheries Biology, 1967
Robert Lackey, after graduation, married fellow Humboldt student, Lana Apparius, then both moved to the University of Maine for Bob’s Master of Science (Zoology/Fisheries), then relocated in 1968 to Colorado State University, where they both graduated (Ph.D., Fisheries and B.S., Speech Therapy). Bob’s jobs at Virginia Tech, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and Oregon State University followed. They have lived in Corvallis, Oregon, for the past 43 years. As a student at Humboldt, Bob lived on campus in the “Game Pens.”
Kenneth James Townsend
Business Administration, Accounting, 1967
Now retired after 30+ years of Federal service with the US Govermental Accountability Office, US Bureau of Reclamation, the Department of Energy and US Army Vietnam veteran. Have enjoyed world wide travels with my wife of 47 years Emilie (Britvec) Townsend (66). Will always treasure our years at HSU where we met and married.
Pamela Hartvig Range
Social Work, 1967
Pamela Hartvig Range is a practicing psychotherapist, expressive arts therapist, and artist. After graduating from HSU she went on to get her MSW at California State University Sacramento, an MFA in paint from California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland, California, and a PhD in Expressive Therapy. She is practicing privately in Sacramento, California. Hartvig Range also worked as a medical social worker and performed many types of out patient mental health as well as a lot of clinical supervision. She has shown her oil paintings and prints all over. She did abstract landscapes for 30 years and has switched to the human form.
Bonnie D Gavey Napier
Sociology, 1967
After Humboldt, Bonnie went on to other degrees, and later became an Occupational Therapist and professor of occupational therapy and physical therapy. The third edition of her textbook, The Occupational Therapy Fieldwork Survival Guide 3rd Edition, will be out this fall.
