Robert Cliver
History
On November 29, Professor Robert Cliver of HSU's History Department presented a paper titled "Institutional Continuities across Wartime, Postwar, and Communist Regimes - The Case of the China Sericulture Company" at the British Academy in London for the conference, How Maoism was Made: Analysing Chinese Communism beyond the Totalitarian Lens, 1949-1965.

Professor Stephen Jenkins gave three presentations in Thailand and Singapore this month: "How the West Misunderstood Buddhism and the Implications for Contemporary Buddhist Cultures," Mahachula Buddhist University, Wat Suan Doc, Chiang Mai; "On the Deep Roots of Pure land Buddhism in the Early Pāli Texts," Yale/National University of Singapore; and "Deities and Divine Birth in Buddhism," [Three day Seminar], Mahidol University, Bangkok.

Associate Professor Vincent Biondo travelled to Toronto to present the paper "Faith and History: The Legacy of Wilfred Cantwell Smith for the 21st Century," at the 7th Parliament of the World's Religions.

Professor Robert Cliver delivered a paper, "Labor-Capital Consultation and Factory Management in Chinese Capitalist Enterprises in the 1950s" at the World Economic History Congress at MIT, July 29 - Aug. 3, 2018.
Leena Dallasheh

Dr. Dallasheh has been awarded the National Endowment for Humanities (NEH) Awards for Faculty at Hispanic-Serving Institutions. This award is for completing her book manuscript, "Contested Citizenship: Nazareth’s Palestinians in the Transition from British Mandate to Israel, 1940-1966."

Dr. Dallasheh participated in College and University Educators Workshop at the Council for Foreign Relations in New York, NY. The workshop brings together over 100 professors, from around the USA, who are teaching courses on or related to international relations and U.S. foreign policy, along with those from other fields who are interested in introducing global issues into their classroom.

Dr. Dallasheh presented a paper entitled "Despite the Nakba: Palestinian Nazareth in Israel" at the Elliott School of International Affairs at George Washington University. The paper was a part of the Institute for Middle East Studies Annual Conference 2018 - Nakba: Past and Present.

Leena Dallasheh, Department of History, was invited to present a paper entitled “Here We Stay: Palestinians under the Military Regime.” (Hebrew) at a conference on Israel in the First Decade: Socio-Historical Research. The conference was held at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, on January 1, 2018.
