Today’s Banana Republic: Expeditionary Classics, with a Twist
11:00am - 12:00pm- LIB 209The current US administration’s military action and economic takeover of Venezuela may strike contemporary citizens as being so brazen as to be unprecedented. A look at America’s military and consumer history, however—as seen through Banana Republics, Gaps, and Old Navies, both behavioral and nominal—indicates a closer than ethically comfortable connection between the Monroe and the “Donroe” Doctrines. This talk will present some basic frameworks, and will ask the question: how are we to steer our own enterprises through such a mess?
