Environmental Geology and Water Management
- MS, Environmental Systems Geology, Humboldt State University. 2017.
- BS, Geology, Humboldt State University. 2014.
I have been a consulting geologist for the last 8 years and my teaching focuses on helping students apply the skills that they have learned during their academic careers to projects similar to what they may encounter in their professional careers.
I am a licensed professional geologist in California specializing in integrated water management. This ranges from stream and habitat restoration to drinking water solutions for disadvantaged communities. My work includes assessing groundwater storage and availability, water quality for various uses, soil and groundwater contamination, and resiliency and sustainability planning. This requires both desktop-based evaluation as well as field investigations. This allows me to work with and assist cities, counties, and service districts as they evaluate how to best provide sustainable water services to their communities. My work is highly multidisciplinary, and I am continuously working on teams that include engineers, geologists, environmental planners, biologists, and spatial analysts. I enjoy my career in geology because it has allowed me to work on a variety of projects and engage with people and geology across the Pacific Northwest.

- MS, Environmental Systems, Humboldt State University, 1999; BA, Geology, Humboldt State University, 1995
I have been a consulting geologist for over 25 years, and my teaching focuses on applied field methods for contemporary practice with strategies and advice for entering the professional world.
I am a licensed professional geologist specializing in fluvial and hillslope geomorphology. My work emphasizes projects that focus on flow and sediment management needs to restore geomorphic processes on regulated rivers, including sediment supply and sediment yield analyses; developing sediment management plans designed to help mitigate physical and biological impacts resulting from streamflow and sediment regulation; and developing and implementing monitoring programs to evaluate sediment mobility, transport, and associated geomorphic changes. My professional background also includes engineering geology (hillslope processes, slope stability, fault trenching, drilling, soils sampling and testing) and environmental geology (soil, surface water, and groundwater sampling; contaminant fate and transport analysis).
