OLLI Classes

Beginning Pickleball: Skills and Drills

Sun., July 5, 12, 26, & Aug. 2, 10 a.m.-12 p.m.

Location: In person: On Campus

Cost: $70

With Jerry Saner, Pickleball Instructor

Learn the basic mechanics and strategies of playing the game of pickleball through drills that will improve your skills. Paddles and balls are provided. You just need to come prepared to play and learn. Court shoes are the preferred footwear.

The Forbes Gym, where this class takes place, is located at the top of a steep hill on Union Street. There are ADA parking spots at the top of the hill behind the Student Recreation Center. Please reference this map for ADA parking and accessibility information here. Daily parking permits are still required when parking in ADA spots on campus.

Register by 12 p.m., July 1.

Jerry Saner

Jerry Saner retired in July of 2014 from Humboldt State University after 18 years working as a cook, custodian and campus recycler in the Department of Sustainability. He is also a Humboldt State University alumnus. Jerry has taught cooking classes, helped to teach the campus community about recycling and has played and been a dungeon master for the past 30 years for a local gaming group. He's been teaching pickleball for OLLI at HSU since fall of 2017. Jerry has also been enjoying role-playing games and board games for over 30 years. He previously taught a class for OLLI to teach students how to play the "Command and Colors" war board game. He also offers a Special Interest Group based on non-mainstream board games, as of fall 2024.
