With Paul Bourdeau, Ecologist
The flora and fauna of Northern California tide pools are known for their striking biodiversity despite the harsh physical conditions they endure. The former makes them a fun way to spend an early morning in the summer poking around to see what you can find. The latter is what makes them "nature's laboratory" for marine biologists studying ecology and climate change. Come learn about tidepool biodiversity and ecology from Cal Poly Humboldt marine ecologists. We'll suggest ways to plan your tidepooling trips to optimize your time and experience, we'll share tips on maximizing safety on northern California's rugged rocky coastline, and we'll recommend proper tide pool etiquette for minimizing disturbance and harm to the organisms living there. We'll also share a brief history of tide pool ecology and teach you about our local tidepool denizens.
