Special Collections is Hiring!
Under the supervision of the Special Collections Librarian and the Archivist & Digital Publication Specialist, student duties for this position will include:
- Leading tours and giving presentations to 8th grade visitors
- Providing research and library assistance for students and community users
- Teaching researchers how to navigate the Special Collections website, catalog, database and finding aids
- Completing collection inventories and photo duplication requests
- Metadata entry
- Promoting Special Collections via library social media and blogs
- Transcribing and digitizing archival documents
- Performing quality control for archival projects
- Re-shelving and pulling books, gathering and collection boxes from storage
- Creating digital and physical exhibits to promote Special Collections to visitors
Skills Required:
Experience using the Humboldt Room collections or another archive. Ability to use Google Calendar and schedule shifts without fail. Ability to work independently and use problem solving skills and independent good judgment.
Other Competencies Required:
Dependable, proactive, interest in Special Collections or library work, ability to lift 40 lbs, ability to pass Library of Congress classification/shelving test.
Preferred Skills:
Ability to read cursive and print handwriting, Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel), Adobe Photoshop, scanning, efficient typing, web creation, video editing, or text editing are bonuses. Interest in giving tours is a bonus.
