Dear Colleagues,
This is truly my favorite time of the academic year – energy high, celebrations of successes abound, and students are turning attention to what is next. Recently, I got to attend a couple of department-hosted alumni panels (Economics, and Politics), and thoroughly enjoyed them both. One of my most fun things to do is to learn from our alumni – how they landed their first job, how one job led to the next, and what it takes to contribute meaningfully. Perhaps one of the most common bits of insight I have appreciated hearing from alumni (and resonates with my own experience) is how they have felt like their careers have been built on learning on the fly and making things up as they go. I love it when people are honest like that! If you are ever hosting alumni panels in your department, I would be thrilled to receive an invitation. Seeing and hearing from our alumni is an inspiring reminder of what it is we do here.

University Senate & Distinguished Faculty Awards Reception: May 12, 2026
The Offices of the President and Provost cordially invite all faculty and staff to attend the University Senate & Distinguished Faculty Awards Reception on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Kate Buchanan Room (GSAC 225).
The program will begin at 5:30 p.m., with the following schedule of events:
5:45 p.m. – Recognition of Outgoing and Incoming University Senators
6:00 p.m. – ERFSA Grant Faculty Awards Recognition
6:30 p.m. – Distinguished Faculty Awards Ceremony
We look forward to celebrating the accomplishments of our faculty and shared governance leaders and hope you will be able to join us. Food and beverages will be served.
Call for Participants: Fall 2026 (Paid) Faculty Learning Community on Critical Digital Literacy
The College of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences invites applications to join a seven-week Faculty Learning Community (FLC) in Fall 2026 focused on designing and integrating critical digital literacy and inquiry into undergraduate teaching using the Adobe Express platform. Faculty with all levels of experience—including no prior experience with the Adobe platform—are welcome. This FLC is open to 20 faculty members from all disciplines who teach first-year courses and/or participate in instruction in place-based learning communities. Spots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Register by May 15, 2026.
This FLC will meet in person from 10:30 - 12:00 p.m. for seven consecutive Fridays from September 4 through October 16, 2026, with an additional assessment and celebration event in Spring 2027. Participants will receive a $1,000 stipend through the CSU Adobe for All Initiative and will be eligible to apply for additional rounds of funding from Adobe in future semesters.

CSU Academic Resources Conference (ARC) Watch Party: May 27–29, 2026
Employees are invited to attend the California State University Academic Resources Conference (CSU ARC) Watch Party, hosted by the Cal Poly Humboldt Office of Academic Affairs. The theme of this year’s conference is Cultivating Community: Empowering the Future Together. Join colleagues from across campus to engage in professional development sessions focused on human resources, budget, student success, and leadership.
The watch party will be held May 27–29, 2026, in the Student Activity Center, Banquet Room 131. Sessions run 9:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. on May 27–28, and 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on May 29. Food and drinks will be provided.
