Native American Studies Faculty Book Circle
Are you interested in ethically integrating Indigenous knowledge into your curriculum, but aren’t sure where to start? Faculty of all disciplines are invited to join this book circle to explore how to incorporate Indigenous knowledge and praxis into our work during reflective discussions on The Water Remembers: My Indigenous Family’s Fight to Save a River and a Way of Life by Amy Bowers Cordalis of the Yurok Tribe. Conversations will be facilitated by Dr. Kaitlin Reed, Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) Faculty Fellow. Cross-disciplinary faculty engagement will help Cal Poly Humboldt maintain its leadership within the CSU system as a campus that continues to bridge the social sciences and STEM at the cutting edge of sustainability, social justice, and community environmental research.

The circle will meet weekly on Fridays, 8-9:30 a.m. on Zoom, October 31 through December 5, 2025. Copies of the book will be provided. If you would like to participate, please register at the following link: Faculty Book Circle, fall 2025.

Walk and Talk Initiative Enters Second Year

The Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion’s (ODEI) “Walk and Talk” initiative continues to open up authentic dialogue spaces with university departments and units. In its second year, the initiative has expanded to include the Office of the Registrar, the Library, Housing, EOP/Student Support Services, and the Center for Teaching and Learning. Through facilitated conversations, departments reflect on how diversity, equity, and inclusion are present in their daily practices. These conversations also support Cal Poly Humboldt’s WASC accreditation by evidencing institutional efforts toward inclusive excellence and continuous improvement.

Have a great week.
