Good morning and happy Wednesday! I hope everyone is having a great week!
Reminder about the Testing Center Make-Up Exam Process
Make-up exams for non-Campus Disability Resource Center (CDRC) students must be approved by both a Campus Assistance, Response, and Engagement (CARES) Advisor and the instructor. Ideally, the instructor approves the request before the student submits it online. CARES typically processes these requests within one to three business days, followed by up to two days for the Testing Center to receive the exam from the instructor. This process takes a little bit of time so please plan accordingly as these steps are necessary to help ensure each exam is properly approved, documented, and handled efficiently. Instructors may also proctor their own exams if there is a hard deadline.
As a gentle reminder, make-up exams are reserved for students facing extenuating circumstances such as a death in the family, illness, or mental health concerns. The Testing Center also proctors make-up exams for CDRC students, student-athletes with verified event conflicts, and students participating in academic conferences or presentations (documentation is required). For more information, check out this webpage: Make-up Exams. Please reach the to testing@humboldt.edu if you have any questions.
Internship Assessment Results and Launch of the Internship Information Hub Website
In spring 2025, the university Internship Partners conducted a survey to better understand our students' experiences with internships, learning that students had difficulty understanding the various options available to them and where to go to get information. In response, the Internship Partners developed the internship information hub webpage, which provides an overview of the seven types of internship opportunities available and links students to more information about the experiences they are seeking.
The Internship Partners want faculty and staff feedback on the design and functionality of the website. There are two ways to provide feedback:
- Visit the webpage, linked here: Internships, and provide feedback through a google form, linked here: Website Feedback Form by Friday December 5, 2025.
- Come to an in-person drop-in session on Thursday, December 4th from 1:30 to 3 pm, in BSS, Room 317 to test the webpage and provide feedback in real time.
Additionally, the Internship Partners are seeking departmental partnership to further develop the “Major-specific Opportunities” portion of the webpage. If your department would like to include its internship opportunities at this webpage, please contact: Bori Mazzag at borim@humboldt.edu
More information will be coming soon about a faculty learning community in Spring 2026 to expand departmental and advising resources for experiential learning and internships. If you are interested in learning more about what students said in the internship survey, you can access the full report at this link: EPIIC Needs Assessment Report.
Well Done: Trillium Project and Conference
A delayed acknowledgement to Katie Koscielak, Leah Choi, and Morgan Barker who provided leadership for the Trillium Project and Conference last month where participants engaged in an immersive experience where sustainability met teaching, learning, and life. Additional gratitude to the Center for Teaching and Learning media staff, Deborah Ketelson and Michel Sargent who created sustainability-focused videos highlighting work from: Sarah Jaquette Ray, Kaitlin Reed, Cutcha Risling-Baldy, Michelle Selvans, Vermilion Walls, and Nick Perdue.
The Trillium Project Conference - Sustainability Across Curriculum, engaged 52 educators, 35 of whom were affiliated with Cal Poly Humboldt as faculty, staff, or students. Eleven registrants represented national and international educational institutions and organizations, and six registrants represented six different local Humboldt County K–12 educational institutions.
If you would like to learn more about the Trillium Project, please contact: Morgan Barker at mew11@humboldt.edu, or visit Sustainability Faculty & Learning, Trillium Project for information and curated content from the 2025 Conference.
No Provost Communication Next Week
As a reminder, there will be no Provost Communications next week in observance of Fall Break. I hope everyone enjoys some well-earned time off (whether you are off all or part of next week). Thank you for all that you do for our students, our campus, and our community. I am grateful for your unique contributions, each of which helps make Cal Poly Humboldt a truly amazing place to work. Thank you again.
Sincerely,
Jenn Capps
